CJ's HighMarks Restaurant will donate 20% of total sales to the Mercer County House of Hope September 11. This is for both dine-in and carryout all day.

They will donate 15% of total sales on September 16 to the Animal Protection League of Mercer County. Lets all support them.



Board Meeting.

The board adopted a resolution to make the 5th Tuesday of every month a Fun Nite. The first such event will take place at 7 PM, September 30th at the mattress store next to the Deluxe Dry Cleaners. Bring snacks and dress for halloween or in pajamas. Spouses are invited. 

October the 8th will be installation of officers. All officers and board members please attend that meeting.

The board voted to spend $300 to have the Kiwanis logo displayed at the Bulldogs football stadium.

Starting in October 2014 the greeter function will be combined with the program host function. .

The Aktion Club will be sending out RSVP's for their 10 year anniversary dinner which will be held at the Coldwater hospital. Enter  using the West side entrance. The event starts at 6 PM with a social time followed by the meal at 6:30 PM. Honored guests are the Ohio District of Kiwanis Governor Diana Kiplinger, the Division 2 Lieutenant Governor Karen Cisco, the Ohio District Aktion Adviser and possibly Bob King who was instrumental in forming the Aktion Clubs in Ohio. 
The menu for the Aktion Club's 10 year anniversary buffet style dinner is:

We received a thank-you card from Camp Talk for the $100.00 we had donated to them.
Camp TALK by the Lake is an extraordinary opportunity for children between the ages of 6 and 14 who struggle with speech, language and/or social communication challenges.

Program.

Teresa Smith presented herself as today's speaker.

Teresa spoke about a company that furnishes playground equipment and the fact that our club could receive matching funds from the Ohio District Foundation. The company is Landscape Structures and builds playgrounds for all ages. This would be a worthwhile project for us to get involved with.

Kiwanis Education.

67. K-Kids is a Kiwanis-sponsored service club for students in elementary schools. Each K-Kids club is a local project of its sponsoring Kiwanis club, and there is no district or International K-Kids structure. The K-Kids program was officially adopted by Kiwanis International in 1998.

The September 16th division 2 meeting is a "Pass the Banner" meeting where current Lt. Governor Jeff Schulman passes the banner to Lt. Governor-elect Karen Cisco. It would behoove us to show up in force to show our support of Karen.

Remember, it is Kiwanis custom to rise whenever an officer (Lt. Governor or higher) enters the room.

Karen Cisco reported on this year's district convention and that the theme was to make meetings more fun.

Division 2 Meeting.

 Lt. Governor Jeff Schulman.

Lt. Governor-elect Karen Cisco, Rita Schmit and Hans Rehrmann attended the division 2 meeting in Lima on August 7th. This was a make-up meeting for the one cancelled in March of this year due to wintry weather. 

The main speaker at this meeting was John Miller of the Ohio District Kiwanis Foundation. He spoke about the various projects of the foundation.

Here is an excerpt from their web page:

"The Ohio District Kiwanis Foundation provides a way for Kiwanis clubs and members to support service in communities throughout Ohio. Through donations and fundraising activities, financial resources are combined and invested to make grants for Kiwanis projects that serve children. Since 2003, a particular focus has been on Pediatric Trauma Prevention and Education projects.

If you would like to support the Ohio District Kiwanis Foundation, you can become a member of the Ambassador Program through continuing donations with recognitions starting with the minimum gift of $50. The Past International Presidents Award is given for $500 donations and Williams, Schneider and Sellers Awards are given for $1,000 donations. These awards can be given to recognize club members, leaders or supporters. Participating in the Golf Outing, Walk the Magic Mile, and Kroger Community Rewards are other ways to support the Foundation.

Projects in which Kiwanis family clubs are involved are eligible for grants to begin or expand service in local communities. Community grants support programs enriching the lives of children. Pediatric trauma grants support projects which prevent or treat children’s injuries.

Club Advised Funds allow Kiwanis Clubs to invest their resources with the Foundation and receive tax deductible donations. This service is helping clubs all over the state to grow their funds for service projects in their communities.

Aktion Club.

The Aktion Club anniversary celebration will take place at the Mercer Health hospital on Saturday, October 18th. Meals will be $10 per person. The event starts at 6 PM with dinner being served at 6:30 PM. The following luminaries have accepted the invitation: Ohio District Kiwanis Governor Diana Keplinger, Division 2 Lt. Governor Karen Cisco, Ohio District Aktion Advisor Robert Hobart and candidate for Governor-Elect Ohio District Kiwanis Amy Zimmerman.

Program.

Dave Smith introduced his Guest, the Mayor of Celina, Jeff Hazel.


The mayor spoke a bit about his background and then about a wide range of subjects. He spoke about the planned girl's softball diamonds in Westview park. He then went on to say that he would like to move the playground in Eastview park out of the woods into an area nearer the boy's baseball diamonds and placing a frisbee golf course in the woods. He also wants a playground in Mercelina park. When asked about the Westbank road condition he said it would be repaved this Fall.

Kiwanis Education.

66. Club bylaws set a limit of 90 minutes for a club meeting, from the time when the meeting is called to order until it is adjourned. Clubs are required to conduct meetings at least twice per month. To receive attendance credit, a member must be present for at least 60 percent of a meeting.

Kiwanis Education.

65. There is no such thing as “life membership” in Kiwanis. However, Kiwanis International does grant Life Member Status in return for a payment equal to 15 times the current International dues. The number of Kiwanians granted Life Member Status in any year is limited. Kiwanians seeking Life Member Status must have been members for at least three years and be approved by the club board. Payment may be made by the individual member, but Life Member Status often is obtained for a member by his or her club as a form of special recognition. Clubs are not billed for International dues for members with Life Member Status. But these members do continue to pay the KIWANIS  magazine subscription fee and the general
liability insurance fee, as well as club and district dues
